About Grind Those Beans

Independent coffee reviews, written by people who actually drink the stuff

Grind Those Beans is a small US-based editorial team writing about home coffee gear, brewing technique, and beans. We started in 2021 because every “best coffee maker” article we read sounded the same — repackaged spec sheets, no real opinions, no honest tradeoffs.

We test what we recommend. We disclose when we earn a commission. We pick favorites and explain why. If a popular machine isn’t worth it, we say so.

How we test & review

  • Hands-on use first. We brew with the gear daily for at least two weeks before writing anything. No “based on the spec sheet” reviews.
  • Roundups synthesize the field. When we can’t personally test 8 machines for a “Best of” piece, we transparently say so and base our ranking on our own experience plus aggregated user feedback from r/coffee, r/espresso, and trusted reviewers.
  • We update prices regularly via Amazon’s Product API, and we never display a price in our copy — only the live “check current price” link, because prices change weekly.
  • Negative reviews when warranted. We’ve called out popular machines for being overpriced or buggy. Editorial integrity beats commission.

Affiliate disclosure

As an Amazon Associate, Grind Those Beans earns from qualifying purchases. When you buy through one of our links, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products we actually believe in — affiliate revenue keeps the lights on but doesn’t shape what we say.

Editorial standards

  • Citations: we link to specialty coffee authorities (SCA, James Hoffmann, Perfect Daily Grind) and primary sources whenever possible.
  • Fact-checking: brewing ratios, water temperatures, and caffeine numbers are verified against the SCA Coffee Standards and peer-reviewed sources.
  • Updates: our top-traffic guides are reviewed quarterly. Outdated picks get refreshed; recalled products get pulled.
  • AI use: we use AI tools to assist with drafting and research, but every published article is reviewed and edited by a human editor before going live.
